We are so excited to launch Rosewood at Home!
We’ll be holding a heart-warming three-hour concert to remember why we love our music camp experience.

The Rosewood at Home Concert will be on Sunday 18 October from 3 to 6 pm.

There are a range of activities that you can be involved in leading up to the concert that will enable you to make your musical or artistic contribution. Read on.

What you need to do …

First, Register

To be involved … you must first REGISTER for Rosewood at Home using this Trybooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/BLGMU

Once registered, you will get more information about how to be involved.

Second, when you register choose one or more from the below:
  • Prepare a pre-recorded performance
  • Virtual Youth Band
  • Aaron’s Big Sing
  • Live Blackboard
  • Other Rosewood at Home activities
  • Rosewood Yoga

See the end of this email for more details of each of these activities.

Registrations close 8 pm Friday 16 October – however you need to register early to be involved.

No camp fees apply this year, but donations are welcome to help us cover the costs of running the on-line event, including paying our wonderful artists and technical crew.

Please follow our Facebook page for more information:

Put Sunday 18 October in your diary now and join us for an afternoon of beautiful, collaborative music to help soothe and heal our souls.

We look forward to sharing the Rosewood spirit with you from home.

Love from the Rosewood at Home Team

Rosewood at Home Activities

Prepare a pre-recorded performance

Record a 3 minute video for presentation at the Rosewood at Home concert.

You could record this when you’re together with a group of family or friends (subject to Covid restrictions) running your own mini-music-camp! Use the school holidays…ideal time for a Rosewood experience! Suggestions for mini-camp activities are below.

Record the best bits on video and send us a 3 minute (maximum length) item that could be part of the Rosewood at Home event on 18 October. They’ll all be archived for future use and the best will be selected for the Rosewood at Home concert.

More details on how to prepare and submit your video will be emailed to you when you register.

Strict deadline for inclusion: Saturday 3 October – 8 pm.

Virtual Youth Band

Join the Youth Band!

Laura Belfrage, Holly McNamara and team will lead you through a collaborative experience to bring a VYB (Virtual Youth Band) to the concert on October 18.

You’ll need to attend the workshops and be prepared to record your audio contribution. All details and support provided.

Workshops:
• Monday 21 September at 11 am
• Wednesday 23 September at 11 am

Submit your VYB recording by 5 pm Saturday 26 September and the digital wonders will transform it into an amazing concert track. Details for submission will be provided.

For the young and young at heart :)

Aaron’s Big Sing

Be part of Aaron’s Big Sing (ABS). Register early to get details of the song, how to be involved and what you need to do to add your part to this exciting video production.

Aaron Silver is larger than life, a charismatic and fabulous performer and inspiring music teacher.

Aaron’s Big Sing contributions will be compiled and presented as part of the on-line festivities on October 18.

More details, including key dates, will be provided to those who register to be part of Aaron’s Big Sing.

Live Blackboard

Perform live at the Rosewood at Home concert from the comfort of your home.

Register your interest with Andy Rigby using the contact form below by Saturday 10 October, to get a spot on the Live Blackboard.

Limited places available. As at camp, priority will be given to items relevant to the camp community or experience.

Strict time limit of 3 minutes.

Other Rosewood at Home activities

Take the time out during September to experience the spirit of Rosewood with family and friends.

Our suggestions for ways that you can celebrate Rosewood at Home …

• Acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where you reside. If you don’t know who the traditional owners are, find out from your local Council.
• Hold a gathering and share a favourite song. Maybe run it like a ‘song-swap’ activity you may have seen at a music camp or singers’ gathering.
• Teach a tune to instrumental players.
• Try a new instrument: ask someone at your gathering to show you!
• Have a ‘Covid-safe’ dance. This should be limited to family (if contact
involved). Invent some new non-contact dances…outside is best.
• Share stories or music camp memories around a campfire.
• Create an ‘instant band’ to try some new combinations.
• Write a song about what’s going on in your life…Covid-related or not!
• Run an art or craft activity (maybe even a creative background for your
video contribution….?)
• Go on a short wildflower (or gardenflower!) walk and take some photos – send us your photos to post on our Rosewood Facebook page.

Rosewood Yoga

In keeping with the spirit of Rosewood, join us for Yoga at 9 am on Sunday 18 October and re-live those chilly but fun mornings waking up with the sun.

A Zoom link to join will be sent to you if you register for this.

Important announcement:Rosewood Music Camp 2020

3/8/2020

Picture

Presenting: Rosewood @ Home!

Greetings in "interesting" times, Rosewood Musicians and Friends.

After much thought the planning team has decided that Rosewood Music Camp will go ahead this year, but in a very different format - introducing “ROSEWOOD AT HOME!”.

In these times it's clear that bringing lots of people together for extending periods of time is just not possible, so there will be no camp at Charnwood this year.

HOWEVER!

Since making music with family and friends is the essence of Rosewood, we invite you to set up your own mini-Rosewood and then share the love back to us.

THE CONCEPT:
In you own special space, gather safely with family and friends.

WHEN:
On or close to our normal weekend (25-28th September)

DESIGN AND EXECUTION:
You design your own “Rosewood-at-home” programme, and have a hell of a good time.
Record and upload your best samples by Sunday 4th October.

THE CULMINATION:
Come to the concert. All the video contributions will be kept as an archival memory of a very unusual year, and the “best of” will be shown as part of a live streamed “Rosewood at Home 2020” concert event a few weeks later.

HANDY HINTS FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT:
If the spirit moves you, film and photograph some representative samples of your gathering, and send them in to us (along with photos). Our tech gurus will advise the best way to do this (more info later). Ideally the individual film clips should be no more than three minutes long.

The concert event will include live commentary from committee and MCs, and performances from some special guests. There will also be a limited number of live blackboard spots available.

SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR ROSEWOOD AT HOME PROGRAMME:
  • acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which you gather.
  • share a favourite song with the gathering. Maybe run it like a “song-swap” activity you may have seen at a music camp or singers’ gathering.
  • teach a tune to instrumental players (we may send out some ideas for suitable tune-fodder)
  • try a new instrument; ask someone at your gathering to show you!
  • have a “Covid-safe” dance. This should be limited to family (if contact involved) Invent some new non-contact dances…outside is best.
  • share stories or music camp memories around a campfire.
  • create an “instant band” to try some new combinations.
  • write a song about what’s going on in your life….Covid-related or not!
  • run an art/craft activity
  • go on a short wildflower (or gardenflower!) walk

GO FOR IT! (and email us from our website with your ideas or questions)

Let's keep the flame of Rosewood Alive and create a little magic to share with one another in October.

With much love and gratitude from your Rosewood Planning Team -
Andy, Dot, Christopher, Nicole, Jackie, Helena, Vera, Jill and Robyn

Catering orders for camp are now OPEN!

11/8/2019

Now that you've secured your tickets, it's time to order you meals for camp with Carolina of Malmsbury Kitchen Garden!  Head to our Catering Page and select the meals you need, then pay online - all done.

If you're booked into our bunkhouse accommodation, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you dine with Carolina, as the self catering facilities are very limited, and you will need to BYO esky etc to store perishables.

Meals are only available by pre-order - meals cannot be purchased at the camp.  This is to minimise food wastage and risk for our lovely caterer.  Stay tuned for news about our new cafe barista...

On registration you'll receive tickets for each meal you have ordered, which you will use to redeem your meals.

Breakfasts and snacks will still need to be self catered.

That's all!  See you soon everyone.

Rosewood Music Camp 2019 Tickets now on sale!

Tickets for the 2019 Rosewood Music camp are now on sale!
This year's Rosewood Music Camp continues to deliver a quality wide-ranging programme of music-related activities. A major theme this year is the music and dance of our neighbouring country Timor Leste (East Timor).  Song and dance will be led by Paulo Almeida, Gil Santos, Zeca Mesquita and Elsa Pinto, who are all East Timorese with Melbourne connections.  Kavisha Mazella will join us for the first time to lead some singing, linking with her previous East Timorese projects.

Wodonga's Jody Moran brings his Irish heritage to the camp, and there's a welcome return from one of our first ukulele tutors, Lucy Wise. Bowed strings are led by Rosie Luby and Ewen Baker, both well loved as tutors at the annual Lake School of Koroit.

Throw in art, youth band, resilience workshops, wildflower walks, kids singing, yoga, our big ensemble and some outdoor activities, and there's something for everyone..

What's new this year?
We've switched our online ticketing from Eventbrite to Trybooking, an Australian company.  Instead of purchasing bunkhouse upgrades in addition to your camp registration, you'll select from either camping or bunkhouse sections.  The pricing for both kinds of ticket is all-inclusive and you can purchase a combination of both if your party will be staying in both kinds of accommodation.

Early bird pricing to August 11th
Maximum ticket prices are shown, however if you book your tickets prior to the 11th of August, your tickets will be discounted by $20-$5 depending on the kind of ticket - so get in early for best prices!

New caterer
We are very excited to announce that Carolina from Malmsbury Kitchen Garden will be providing the onsite catering this year.  Meals will be available for pre purchase from our website within the next 2 weeks and are only available via pre-order - you will not be able to purchase them at camp.  There will also be pay as you go cafe options at camp.  We strongly recommend that people staying in bunkhouse accommodation dine with Malmsbury Kitchen as self-catering facilities are very limited.

It got REALLY cold at night last year!
Campers in 2018 got a taste of just how cold the nights can be at Charnwood, so we really want to highlight the importance of bringing bedding and clothing that you can layer on and off as needed.  Several thinner layers instead of one thick one, and a good beanie and scarf, can make the difference between a happy camper and a shivering one!

Keep in touch and help us to spread the word
We'll be sending messages via the blog and email list, and posts to our Facebook Page and Group.  The group is a great place to connect with other campers and arrange transport etc.  If you aren't already aware of our social channels, they are:

Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/rosewoodmusiccamp/
Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rgmcinc/
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rosewoodmusiccamp/
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIy_raRbFIiHZjqloKxIc6Q
Twitter: twitter.com/rgmcinc

Follows, likes, reviews are all appreciated and help to spread the word about our fabulous camp!

Book your tickets
So now it's time to take action and book your spot!  Looking forward to seeing you all in September,
Warm Regards,
The Rosewood Planning Team

Part of the warm and friendly vibe at Rosewood Camp comes down to the fantastic attitude of our generous volunteers.  We're so lucky to have a team of reliable friends to ensure things get done around camp and all our participants feel safe, welcome and informed.

It's time again for you to register your application to volunteer.  If you've been to a camp before and been inspired by our volunteers in action, or seen a job that REALLY needs to be done, why not apply?  Your reward is a free camp registration and our deep appreciation.

Vera Herman is co-ordinating volunteers this year and is busy getting organised.  To apply please head to our Volunteers page and complete the form - Vera will be in touch to let you know the outcome and process from there!

Shocking facts:
  1. There are only 3 weeks left of term three after this week
  2. It's only 28 sleeps until camp starts
  3. There are only 14 days left for you to book your tickets and order your meals with Deb, our onsite caterer!!
And did we mention the latest tutor announcements?  Pop over here and take a look!

If you're wondering about catering options this year, there are some changes, including the end of the wash against waste trailer - here are the details:

What facilities are there for cooking and self-catering?
1. Campers may:
  • Be fully self-sufficient for all of their meals,  or
  • Order dinners and lunches from our camp caterers. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CUTLERY, PLATES AND CUPS.
2. Because bunkhouse campers have access to very limited self-catering facilities, it is suggested that meals be ordered from the caterers. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CUTLERY, PLATES AND CUPS. The facilities for breakfast preparation are as follows:
  • There are no cooking facilities in Bass House.
  • There are limited cooking facilities in Alto House kitchen: jug, microwave and toasters suitable for breakfast preparation.
  • There is a ‘camp kitchen’ located in the breezeway between Soprano House and Alto House suitable for breakfast preparation: toasters, jugs and small gas camp-stoves.
  • Bunkers will need to bring coolers for food and their own eating and cooking utensils.
3. Dining rooms:
  • The main dining room is in Bass House adjacent to catering servery.
  • There is a dining area in Alto house, and
  • Benches and chairs in the breezeway between Alto and Soprano Houses.
4. Washing up:                                                                                                                                               There will be No dishwashing trailer this year. EVERYONE IS ASKED TO BRING THEIR OWN EATING UTENSILS AND MUGS TO CAMP. (This includes people who buy their meals).                                                                                There are washing up sinks in:
  • Alto House kitchen,
  • Alto-Soprano House breezeway, and
  • Bass House (at the back of the main dining room).

21st Birthday Party

11/8/2018

Hello Rosewood & Roses Gap Music Campers past and present.
This year is our 21st birthday and you are all invited to the party. And we need your help. We would love to see your photos and videos of past camps. In the tradition of 21st birthday parties we will look back on past photos and see how we have all grown up through the years.

We would especially love to see photos of your family, children, and friends, over the period you've been attending the camps, your funny photos, your cute photos, and your stories.

Think of the years in 5 year blocks - 1998-2002, 2003-2007, 2008-2012, 2013-2017. We are very keen to get photos from each of these periods so have a look through your archives and dig out your memories to share with us. We want your photos and your stories. To help us put together our archive, please give us your commentary of the photos. Let us know where you all are now in your music making and how the camps have influenced your lives.
You can contact me on 0403-067-533 or email

Thankyou!  Jackie for the Rosewood planning team.
A little sample of the kind of thing we're after - with a better soundtrack, of course!
